On Monday, September 28, 2009 during the ribbon cutting at Davenport Autopark's Grand Re-opening, Neill Nelson announced Davenport Autopark's new Community For Life Program. For over 80 years Davenport Autopark has believed in supporting and giving back to the local community. In that spirit, Davenport has chosen to partner with Reach Out Rocky Moun's Fun Run for Charities to reinvest a portion of the proceeds from every vehicle sold directly back to the local community. Each Davenport customer will be able to designate one or more participating Fun Run for Charities' non-profit organization to receive a donation from Davenport Autopark. The unique benefit of donating through Fun Run for Charities is that each customer's designated Davenport contribution will be matched by Fun Run for Charities' matching gift fund, providing an even greater level of support to the community. Davenport is calling this new initiative "Community For Life" branded after its "Dealership For Life" program.

Lige Daughtridge, Reach Out Rocky Mount's Board Chair, was present at the Davenport Autopark ribbon cutting and said, "Reach Out Rocky Mount is thankful for companies like Davenport Autopark that what to give back to our community and make Fun Run for Charities a successful event. Fun Run for Charities is an opportunity for all area citizens to work together for the benefit of our community, to solve problems and to make Rocky Mount a better place to live." Reach Out Rocky Mount's Annual Fun Run for Charities supports local nonprofit organizations including churches, schools, charities and service clubs that offer public outreach programming in the form of scholarships, emergency assistance, youth outreach, general education, cultural programs and public health programs.

Reach Out Rocky Mount raised a total of $253,266 in its inaugural 2008 Fun Run for Charities event. The annual event is modeled after Old Bill's Fun Run of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which raises more than $7 million each year for worthy causes. Reach Out Rocky Mount has also created and operates the first On-line Community Calendar for our area which can be viewed at http://www.reachoutrockymount.org/calendar.php.
